Mashable's Adam Rosenberg praised this adventure, which is technically two games in one, as a "reissue of an excellent game that never got the love it deserved". It's a re-release of a title that originally debuted on the Wii U with added content in the form of Bowser's Fury, an open world adventure that combines Mario action with fun, cat-themed island that you can explore as the popular plumber and his friends.

"Bowser's Fury is something truly different, and all the more special for it," Rosenberg wrote. "It's a Mario that is both immediately familiar to pick up and play but also maybe a bit unapproachable and high learning curve-y at first as you work to understand how all these new concepts weave into the familiar.
