"Is that how my boobs should look?," Lovato commented. "It's gorgeous but that's not my body," she added, according to screenshots from fans.
The 17-year old Romanian artist said in response to her comments, saying any negative impact was unintentional. "If I make your waist slimmer and your boobs bigger to accentuate the fact that I drew you as a mermaid, a mythological creature, doesn't mean I say that you should look like that or all girls should look like that. That's how I imagine mermaids," he wrote. "I worked a lot on that drawing and I was proud of it, but not anymore."
Fans had mixed responses to her comments. Some also took time to comment encouraging words to the artist, telling him to be proud of his work.

Additionally, in a Yahoo interview released on Monday, Lovato also continued her comments on body image expectations—and seemed to be speaking about the celebrity squad of friends that often surrounds Taylor Swift.
"This will probably get me in trouble, but I don't see anybody in any sort of squad that has a normal body," she said. "It's kind of this false image of what people should look like."
Lovato tweeted in response to backlash from the comments on Tuesday morning, saying that while she didn't remember making the comments, words can be taken out of context and misunderstood.
