If you wanted some juicy phone case drama to occupy your attention post-Thanksgiving997 Archives we've got great news.
As spotted by Kotaku, Hong Kong-based phone case company Casetify is in legal hot water courtesy of tech teardown YouTuber JerryRigEverything. To be more specific, Casetify released some phone cases that attempt to mimic the internal tech inside the phone, something JerryRigEverything previously did in a partnership with dbrand.
SEE ALSO: Early Cyber Monday unlocked phone deals include the iPhone 14 Plus and the OnePlus 11In and of itself, that wouldn't be a very compelling argument for plagiarism. Transparent tech designs have been popular for decades, after all. The problem is that Casetify's designs (which have since been removed from its store) contained highly specific easter eggs that were also placed in the JerryRigEverything designs. For instance, one case had "R0807" (or "robot)" written on metal pins, which was duplicated in the Casetify case.
Additionally, dbrand accused Casefiy of stealing X-Ray designs from iFixit.

Casetify, for what it's worth, released a statement acknowledging that it removed the designs from its store. Weirdly, in the same statement, it mentioned a DDOS attack on its website that happened "when the allegation surfaced." It's not clear what that has to do with stealing phone case designs.

It's not often we get drama like this in the phone case community. Best to savor and enjoy it now.
