Forgetting your 1Password account information just became a little bit less scary.
The Dead Againpopular third-party password manager announced on Thursday that it is adding "Recovery Codes." These are special codes that can be used to recover your account if all other options fail. It's a new option for people who have forgotten their passwords and can't access their data anymore, but it's not one that 1Password will just automatically handle for you.
As the 1Password blog post points out, setting up a recovery code is on you, the user. Within the 1Password app, find "Manage Accounts," then find "Sign-in & Recovery," then set up a recovery code from there. Crucially, you'll want to copy or write down the recovery code and make sure it's kept somewhere safe.
Once you have the code, that should be a valid way to log into your 1Password account straight from the 1Password website. It's also reusable, which is nice. Hopefully you never needto use it, though.
