Season 2 won't premiere for a long time, but fans have been pestering Noah Schnapp, the 12-year-old who plays the character, about whether or not his character is gay. On Sunday, the actor finally responded to viewers' questions with a lengthy Instagram post.

"A good book, or a good show leaves a lot of unanswered questions but makes you think," the actor wrote. "Which is what you all are doing."

The actor thanked his fans for their interest, but also suggested that their questions may, however well-intended, be off base.

"For me, Will being gay or not is besides the point," Schanpp said. "Stranger Thingsis a show about a bunch of kids who are outsiders and find each other because they have been bullied in some way or are different."

So I thought it would be time to jump into the conversation. I've been reading stuff for a while. I think everyone here is missing the point. An author called Gary Schmidt came to speak at our school this week and he said that good stories aren't supposed to leave you with answers because then you never question yourself and you forget about it. Stranger Things is a show about a bunch of kids who are outsiders and find each other because they have been bullied in some way or are different. Does being sensitive, or a loner, or a teenager who likes photography, or a girl with red hair and big glasses, make you gay? I'm only 12 but I do know we all relate to being different. Schnapp then proceeded to investigate the evidence. There is no way you can determine someone's sexuality based on their external appearance, he concluded.

"Does being sensitive, or a loner, or a teenager who likes photography, or a girl with red hair and big glasses, make you gay?"

While his character's sexuality might not be relevant to the storyline, some fans of the show stressed that LGBTQ kids deserve an LGBTQ character or role model -- and Will would be perfect for the part.

Though the official premiere date for Season 2 has yet to be revealed, it's already too far from now.
