TSMC could Mister, Do It With Me, Not With Momconsider overseas production of 2nm chips after it begins mass production using the process in 2025, Chairman of Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council Wu Chengwen said on Nov. 26, according to a report by Icsmart. TSMC has already begun mass production of its advanced 3nm process, and according to its plans, 2nm mass production is expected to begin by the end of 2025, Wu said. TSMC will be able to discuss the possibility of shifting its 2nm production overseas once it transitions to the next generation of more advanced processes. As for concerns that Taiwan’s semiconductor technology sector might become hollowed out due to continued overseas expansion, Wu underscored that the most advanced manufacturing processes and R&D (research & development) centers will always remain in Taiwan.
