The Friend's Mother 4 (2025)Associated Press ran into some criticism on Twitter on Saturday.
The news organization tweeted about comments Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made the night earlier and an ensuing statement.
“You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the ‘basket of deplorables,’ Right?” Clinton said at a fundraiser Friday, according to The Washington Post. “The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic -- you name it.”
On Saturday, Clinton walked back from those comments.
"Last night I was 'grossly generalistic,' and that's never a good idea. I regret saying 'half;' that was wrong," Clinton said in a statement.
The AP tweeted about Clinton's Saturday statement, but didn't clarify that Clinton had said she regretted characterizing "half" of Trump supporters that way.
In line with its stringent editorial standards, the news organization tweeted explaining its decision.
